August 12-16, 2013 | NCAR Foothills Lab, Boulder, Colorado

The focus of the Workshop this summer is on the application of an objective, quantitative evaluation framework to assess the credibility of downscaled climate data developed by the National Climate Predictions and Projections (NCPP) platform and researchers from various organizations (NOAA GFDL, NCAR) and several universities. Participants in the workshop are researchers engaged in climate data downscaling, as well as practitioners from several sectoral working groups:

  • water resources,
  • ecological impacts,
  • agricultural impacts
  • human health impacts of weather and climate.

The first half of the workshop will focus on the evaluations of widely available downscaled climate datasets from a scientific perspective. The evaluation framework will be tested and fine-tuned; advantages, limitations and gaps will be illuminated. The second half of the workshop will focus on evaluations from applications perspective. The evaluations results will be discussed; interpretation and guidance for the appropriate use of downscaled climate information will be developed.

Airport and Transportation To and From DIA

The Denver International Airport (DIA) is located north east of Denver and approximately 45 miles from Boulder. There are websites to show the general location on our website. The Baggage claim is on Level 5 at the main terminal of the airport. Sales counters for most means of ground transportation are on that level also.

We recommend using a shuttle service called the SuperShuttle that runs between DIA and Boulder, making stops at various Boulder hotels (including the Millennium) and other sites. A one-way fare is ~$27. Round-trip is a bit cheaper. The shuttle runs typically every hour. There is no need to make an advanced reservation for the trip to Boulder from DIA. For the return trip to the airport after the workshop, call them directly for pick-up. Their phone number is 303-227-0000 or click on their website.
