FCS Operations

  • NCAR supplied weather data to the Future Combat Systems for the FCS Distributed Test Events (DTEs). NCAR ran the RTFDDA atmospheric analysis and forecast model and generated 5-minute and 1-hour synthetic 4D balanced analyses and accurate short-term forecasts for required test times and periods. Meterological variables and other parameters that are required by FCS are derived. The final products are formated and delivered to FCS end-users using the TENA communications protocol.
  • Carried out real-time modeling analyses and forecasts and retrospective model analyses for DTE 4 and 5 FCS test needs in White Sands Missile Range regions during 2004 and 2005.
  • Conducted three retrospective 4DWX simulations to support FCS (earlier, Virtual Proving Ground) tests at Dugway Proving Ground during 2004.
  • Generated high-resolution retrospective meteorological analyses for three Asian cities and regions during 2004 and 2005.
  • Provided season-long soil moisture analyses for selected stations at Dugway Proving Ground.
