Planetary Data Incorporated: NOAA Port Receivers

The PDINRS system consists of a satellite dish antenna, a standard rack-mounted PC with a Caldera Linux OS, multiple data demodulators (up to 4 possible), and proprietary PDI software. After the PDINRS system downloads NOAA data and the demodulators process the data, automated system programs (PDI and system software) record, manipulate, and deliver data to the 4dwx system.

The PDINRS can receive many types of data. The amount of data downloaded depends on the number channels that the satellite demodulators process. Currently, the 4dwx system uses 2 channels. These channels deliver surface data (specials and hourly obs), sounding data, radar data, satellite imagery (visible, Infrared, and water vapor), and model data.
