Abstract:  This presentation will focus on the development and status of HMS-PrePro, a geospatial toolbox for automated preprocessing of hydrologic basin models using cloud-based data. In a matter of minutes, this tool derives a fully delineated, topologically-connected, and hydrologically parameterized basin model (e.g., infiltration losses, reach routing, hydrograph transformation) anywhere in the world using only the watershed boundary as user-input. We will discuss the history of geospatial preprocessing in hydrological modeling and outstanding gaps in current services. We will then discuss, collectively, what this means for the future of lumped modeling in the era of big data and geospatial AI/ML.
