Abstract: Soil thermal dynamics and freeze-thaw processes play a crucial role in regulating the surface and subsurface water, energy, and carbon budgets. The complex interactions between soil and snowpack during winter, along with uncertainties associated with snow processes within land surface models, significantly impact the simulation of winter soil thermal dynamics. This study seeks to investigate the sources of uncertainty in soil FT processes and examine how snow characteristics contribute to the variability in model-derived winter soil dynamics.
