RAL SEMINAR: Enabling Energy Efficient Operation of Autonomous Vehicles in Inclement Weather Using New Technologies
1:00 – 2:00 pm MDT
Dr. Zachary Asher
Zachary D. Asher, Ph.D, is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Western Michigan University and co-founder of Revision Autonomy LLC. His research interests are focused on a real world realization of energy efficient and autonomous vehicles.
Autonomous vehicle technology promises many societal benefits but there is still a lot of R&D to be done before this technology becomes widespread. This presentation focuses on autonomous vehicle operational and energy efficiency improvements that can be enabled through new data processing and fusion techniques as well as infrastructure technology. An overview of recently published studies spanning operation in snowy weather, fusion of data with weather sensors, and operational performance evaluation is provided. The presentation wraps up with an overview of planned funded future work in inclement weather and energy efficiency.
