About

The new Derecho supercomputer is NCAR's first major step into the heterogeneous computing era. We are seeing an explosion of architectural features like heterogeneous cores, non-volatile memory, and deep memory hierarchies to address the concerns of energy efficiency, cost, and manufacturability. Our HPC software will need to be redesigned to be able to execute and perform across a diverse set of architectures. In my talk, I will provide an overview over some emerging technologies, discuss their implications on software architecture and design, and how we need to adapt to stay competitive.
