In a warmer climate, areas of North America will be a cauldron of intense summer storms

NCAR’s Andreas Prein and colleagues recently published a sobering paper in the peer-reviewed journal, Nature Climate Change (www.nature.com) on the future of summer storms. Based on computer simulations on storms bubbling up in a warmer climate, the study concludes thunderstorms in the U.S. will be more wide-spread, wetter and more frequent, making the threat of flooding much more real and devastating.

Denver’s NBC affiliate, 9News, interviewed Dr. Prein on this study. The story also features Roland Keyes, a career four-star Air Force general who advises the military on climate-related issues who stated that today’s climate is a threat to national security. “You don’t have to give it a political label. Science doesn’t care if you believe in it or not,” he said.
