Linda O. Mearns was awarded the NSF NCAR Distinguished Scholar appointment, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the NSF NCAR - The National Center for Atmospheric Research science or research engineering community. It recognizes the outstanding quality, extraordinary influence, international recognition, and significance of her contributions to the atmospheric and related sciences and to the scientific community at large.

Linda was the Director of the Weather and Climate Impacts assessment Program (WCIASP) and Head the Regional Integrated Sciences Collective (RISC) with the Institute for Mathematics Applied to Geosciences (IMAGe).  She recently retired from NCAR this year as a Senior Scientist.

During her tenure at NCAR she worked in numerous areas, including climate change and scenario formation, uncertainty quantification, and climate impacts on agro-ecosystems.  She was an author of IPCC reports and has helped to advance regional climate modeling, for example through NARCCAP and NA-CORDEX.
