Turning Climate Science into Local Action: EU’s CLIMAAX project is helping communities assess climate risks and plan adaptation strategies. Learn how its funding and tools are empowering local authorities to act on climate resilience.
How do we can turn climate science into local action? The EU’s Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change is tackling this challenge by working directly with regions and municipalities, the front lines of climate impacts. CLIMAAX, one of the Mission’s flagship projects, provides funding and guidance to “early adopter” local authorities to implement a common, science-based methodology for climate risk assessment.
This lecture explores how the CLIMAAX Handbook and Toolbox are helping communities across Europe understand their future climate risks, communicate them effectively, and start shaping adaptation plans. It will also present lessons from funding and supporting over 60 implementations in diverse regions, and how this model of combining robust science, local ownership, and targeted funding could inspire similar approaches beyond Europe.
