Verification against rain radar estimates. (Dr. Efrat Morain - Hebrew University of Jerusalem - provided the radar estimates.)
The Eastern Mediterranean region has been used to demonstrate the accuracy of the WRF-based Climate – Four Dimensional Data Assimilation (C-FDDA) system because it is complex meteorologically and challenging to model well. The CFDDA system uses NNRP data for lateral boundaries, and produces high-resolution climatographies of all meteorological variables. The resulting data set can be used for any purpose where information is needed about the typical state of the atmosphere at locations where there are no routine observations. This project focuses on comparison of the observed and CFDDA-simulated precipitation, near-surface winds over the Mediterranean, and 60-m AGL winds at the coast. This capability can be used for objectives such as wind-energy prospecting and defining source-receptor relationships for air-quality applications.
