Mobile Meteorology (MobileMet) - Aviation Weather for Pilots on Mobile Devices
The objective of the Mobile Met project is to determine the feasibility, utility, and benefits of making meteorological (MET) information more accessible and useful on mobile devices. Over the past decade, there has been rapid development of mobile capabilities and widespread adoption of mobile devices by pilots. Most General Aviation pilots now access weather information on mobile devices, both on the ground and in the air. Despite these developments, there has been very little research into their effectiveness. This project aims to develop a set of Minimum Weather Service Recommendations that can serve as best practices to mobile application users and developers. The project is using user interviews and prototype evaluations to study types of weather information, the frequency of their availability, and alternative presentation techniques. The final result will be a report on which of those yield the most benefit on a mobile platform.
